I heard that Buzz Aldrin became 'odd' after his walk on the moon, triggered by an emotional or religious breakthrough, from seeing the earth from so far away. Has anyone heard this and is it confirmed? Did he have a spiritual or emotional upheaval?

No. He was already religious, and had planned a little ceremony:

Nope. Nothing like that. Edwin Aldrin was, according to the NASA rules of procedure of moon landings, supposed to be the first man to exit the lunar module after the landing and check the vehicle for damage or dangers posed by unforeseen circumstances at the landing site.

Neil Armstrong prevented this by using his captain's authority to rewrite the rules of procedure for the Apollo 11 mission, giving himself the right to be the first man on the moon. This bothered Aldrin a great deal, since Armstrong basically strong-armed him out of a signal honor that should have been his.

Edwin Aldrin, by the way, did some of the software engineering that made the lunar landing possible.

Buzz Aldrin was a devout Christian long before Apollo. After the anti-Christian sentiments expressed after the astronauts read from the Book of Genesis on Apollo 8, Aldrin decided to keep his religious plans a secret. His pastor gave him a "communion kit" to take to the moon. Aldrin took holy communion on the moon in private to avoid any criticism.

After Apollo, Aldrin retired from NASA and returned to the USAF. It was at that time that he suffered from depression and alcoholism. He has been quite candid about his problems in that era.

So, I suppose the answer to your question is "no". It turns out that Buzz Aldrin is a flawed human just like the rest of us.

Probably both, the nervous breakdown coming the latter. Religious breakthroughs are always covered up by something for some reason. It was either God's will or the government's.

No, he was already religious. You should see the mini-series "From the Earth to the Moon". It explains it all.
