please share your views.. was i the only one shocked by what was said, and what wasnt said? No justification, but i can certainly see why terrorism is growing.. the US and UK governments seem to be overly concerned with Judaism & Islam/ ..Israel & Palestine.. These are the route causes of most conflct around the world. Am i wrong in saying religion is evil, and not a path to God but a path to something else??

Responding to your closing question (about whether religion is evil):

When I was growing up and being raised in a religion (which one it was doesn't matter), what I was taught was about loving one another, doing good deeds, and being thankful for what God has provided (especially the gift of life). I could not understand it when I heard people would say that more wars had been fought (and more people killed) in the name of religion than for any other cause. It just didn't seem consistent with my religious experience.

Today (50 years later) it is not so hard to believe that religious wars have been fought throughout the ages. (Note that "religious" wars seems as much an oxymoron as the oft-cited "civil" war.)

Can it be that religion (by which I mean all the different religions of the world) has a good side and a bad side? The part of it that teaches us how to treat others, and how to live our lives in a way that will make us and all those we touch happier, has to be good ... good for the individual, and good for society. But if there is a part of religion that teaches that all other religions are false, that we must not permit others to have their own beliefs, that we must compete against those who do not believe as we do, then that is not good for society, and probably not good for any of the individuals who are brought up with those beliefs.

I guess I'm saying that there is probably too much radicalism, too much competitivism (or even violence) in religion today. We need to work together to eliminate the negative elements that can grow within a religion, and to emphasize the good that religious teachings can bring to society.
