My close friend is now living in Iran and I wanted to go there to visit her. The thing is, I know that there's difficulty there with the Uranium cr*p and the other six countries involved but I've been advised by a lot of people that it's not a good idea for an English girl to go there. Why's that then? Would I actually be in any danger? It would be in the Babaul, Tehran.

Come on now! You can't be afraid of everything. I went to places on the planet that wher considered "hostile" to americans. But if I worried about what other people said I would be a shut in. If your really worried about it just stay home. My friend had asked me once, "so whens the best time to go to egypt I hope I don't have an earthquake or a sand storm while I'm there". I said, "you know if some man strapped with dynamite came charging at you yelling "Jihaad"! or maybe a meteor the size of a baseball came crashing down on the earth and you died from a concussion well than so be it. If its your time to go,...its your time to go! Then my friend asked me what times of year is meteor season? he point is if you want to do something exciting just do it. Don't be scared or therest of your life will shroud of darkness of what you are capable or incapable of doing.

I think your biggest dangers will be the smog or getting run over by the traffic. Go there and enjoy yourself. Listen to the programmes that radio 4 are doing on Iran just now. I wish I was going with you. Have you space for a Scots girl in your suitcase?

I have been to Iran to work about 5 years ago with my wife and she found it quite entertaining and the people are very very friendly in Tehran. The only problems we encountered was the fact that as she did not have a work visa we had to keep registering and renewing her visa continuously. I would try and keep abreast of the current situation but I think that you will not have any problems as long as you keep your head covered and don't wear skimpy clothes.

I was there in 1984 when Khomeni was in power and they were at war with Iraq. The people were/are great and I don't suppose it's too different now. Ignore the uranium stuff, yoou're more likely to run over by a bus in London. But you have to follow your gut instinct on this, if it doesn't feel right don't go.

Say goodbye to your family and friends before you go. Westerners, male or female are not welcome there by some people due to what is going on between Iran and these countries. Heed their advice
