you first need to pull it apart and see what you got
a good machine shop can help you. make sure to mark all your rods with cylider #s and all your crankshaft bearing caps
take before pix that may help on assembly
there are many on line sights as well. some may even walk you through the rebuilding process
if it threw a rod or somthing like that get another one.
it is a basic motor to rebuild and parts are alot cheaper and readily available for that size engine.compared to a ford or chrysler engine that size
good luck

Start by going to the library. Get books on rebuilding small block's by several authors. They will each have the basics, but they all have their own hints and tips to help you along the way.
After studying the books, buy a rebuild kit. It includes all the parts normally needed, rings, gaskets, etc, and is cheaper than buying the parts individually. You may find you need some other parts, but if there is no damage to the engine, you will have everything you need.
Now you can follow the instructions in the books to do the actual rebuild. Once you have dissasembled and thouroughly cleaned the engine, you can inspect it for damage, and for wear. You may need to have the cylenders honed. You can get a tool for your drill to do this for about $25.00 Have fun

there are a gazillion combinations of prts for building performance engines
if you are looking to stay stock or otherwise there are several good how-to books on the market
get a book, stop by a local friendly machine shop and ask questions
they will be glad to help as they will want to do the needed machine work for u
also talk to some of the guys in the local auto parts stores to get an idea of what an engine rebuild kit will cost
you will need to have the crank , rods and cylinders done first so that when you purchase the kit you will be able to tell them what size pistons, rings, rod and main bearings to get
you may opt to buy a crank kit already sized with bearings
a short block can be purchased also which is the block complete with crank, bearings and pistons with rings all ready for you to assemble with your newly refurbished cylinder heads
enjoy
