My mom and I are making a quilit for my mother-in-law for xmas with pictures of her family on there (her kids when they were little and grown and some pictures of her grandkids too) we are going to be putting pictures on there and i was wondering if what would be a good way to put the pictures on fabric?!

Your best bet is to use special fabric sheets that are made to go through your printer. You print the photos directly onto the fabric. This is much better than using iron on transfer paper because it lasts longer and is clearer.

There are many different brands - go to your local quilt shop, or Jo-Ann Fabrics or other craft stores. It isn't cheap, but you'll have a beautiful quilt when you're finished. There are links to several examples below. Check them carefully - some brands need to be heat set, some are not washable. Be sure you're getting what works best for your application.

Good luck - this is a wonderful gift.

I used a source that I got from Quilter's Newsletter magazine classified ads. The photo was of my son's face and appliqued onto the body of an old fashioned golfer to celebrate his 1st hole-in-one. Another favorite source of both quilting products and great telephone help is "Keepsake Quilting".

Iron on transfer paper is available at WalMart and office stores. It goes in your printer. Upload photos to your PC with a camers, or scan old photos. Be sure if any printed words appear on the photo that you reverse image them.
Print the pictures, turn them over on to your fabric, (prewashed muslin) and iron away.

I agree with swbiblio. My grandmother uses the iron on transfer paper and they don't hold up well to use and washing. Just remember that if you go with iron ons the images goes on reversed in case your using words.
