I know that your not suppose to put betta fish with others BUT while cleaning his tank today i put him in with my gold fish/tropical fish. He didnt really do anything, do u think that it is ok? Thanks

Oddly enough, the only thing I have a problem with is that you mixed goldfish with tropical fish. Bettas can get along with most other fish as they can survive in a wide range of waters parameters. Its mixing tropical (warm water) fish with goldfish (cold water) that you can't do.

Well, people really shouldn't answer this if they don't know that SOMETIMES BETTAS CAN DO VERY WELL WITH OTHER FISH!!!!!! Never put them with other bettas though. If your betta did okay with your other fish, put 'em in there. He'll be fine if he was okay when you cleaned his water...
Bettas can TOTALLY LIVE WITH OTHER FISH!!!! But if the other fish nip at his fins, or if he flares or is acting depressed, take 'em out...

Hey - asshat - Iceni's right. Bettas are tropical fish - they need temperatures of at least 76 degrees to thrive. Goldfish are coldwater fish - the water should be at no more than 72 degrees. No matter what temperature you have this bowl/tank at, you're killing one of your fish. Incorrect temperatures will cause a fish great amounts of stress, which will weaken its immune system. Weakened immune system means greater chance of sickness. Great chance of sickness means more likely to die. See how that works? Also, goldfish need to be in filtered tanks, with the tank being at least a 20-gallon tank.

The real risk is that the goldfish is a slow mover. If the betta hasn't attacked the goldfish yet it's unlikely he will. You can keep betta and gold fish together, but they have different food, and temp needs.

Being in a new surrounding (in other fishes' "territory") it's rather expected that it didn't attack. However, I personally say that keeping it with the other fish is still not a good idea as, once it became assimilated, there's a good chance it could go after another.

You can place him with other fish, just not other male bettas. Just make sure that when he is in the other tank that you don't have any fish that will nip at his fins such as tiger barbs.

Bettas are aggressive to their own kind. I have a betta in my large community aquarium and he is fine. You can also keep a male with a female.

I guess if he didn't do anything, but I always heard they will kill the other fish and the only good thing to put with them is a frog.

My beta lives in a tank with a fantailed goldfish.
They seem very happy and have been together for a bit over a year.
