The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. It is a great short book which is spiritual without being religious. It is a philosophical story that can be read in a few hours or for a lifetime.

Read something by Christopher Moore. His books run somewhat along the "horror" genre, but they're very amusing at the same time.
