Sometimes my refrigerator ice maker makes a lot of ice, and sometimes it doesn't.
It's about 7 years old.
The temp in the kitchen is the same all the time.
I use the Kinetico Soft water treatment.
Any ideas on why somtimes I have to put an ice tray in my freezer?

I listen to a Sat. morning call in show that has Home Depot guys on all the time. If they can't help you at HD, nobody can, except maybe the guy at Sears.
They say alot of times the line that comes up the back of your frig freezes, right where 1 size line goes into a different size line. Check the back and find that spot and try a hair dryer. Otherwise there is a valve that opens to fill the ice cube compartment that may be bad. Good luck.

If your ice maker is the type that has a metal arm over the ice bin, be sure the rod is not stuck in the UP position. This is a level sensing device and will stop the ice maker from working if it is in the up position.

If you recently changed the filter you need to prime the lines. Do that by filling up several big glasses of water from the dispenser. Just hold the lever until the air is expelled and then water flows. It should start working after that.
