1) Decide what type of business you want to have and do some research to see if it is a viable business venture - do you have any experience in this type of business; is there a market for the services you will be offering; what type of competition will you have and how close to where you plan to operate your business is this competition? 2) Write up a Business Plan, i.e. where you will start with your business, what your start-up expenses will be; how you plan to grow your business, where you project your business will be 1 year from now, 2 years from now, projected growth and income, etc.3) Figure out what your start-up costs will be and if you will need a loan for these expenses; 4) Check the zoning laws where you plan to operate your business to see if that area is zoned for the type of business you want to operate; 5) Check to see what licenses/permits you will need. It is also important to effectively market your business. Offer something that your competitors are not currently offering - some kind of discount or special for new clients. Never stop marketing your business - even if you have as many clients as you would like at any given time. Don't be tempted to get comfortable with that - you never know when you may lose a client for whatever reason. And don't forget the importance of excellent customer service - this seems to be a bit of a rarity these days.It also helps if you are a very organized and disciplined individual. There will be days when you just don't feel like running your business. This is not to say you can't take a break here and there, just don't over due it - you'll end up stressing yourself out in the long run. Sorry this is so long. Hope it helps. Good luck to you!
