'cuz the food is soooooooo incredibly good!
Indian food is an acquired taste for most Americans, and many Americans don't really care for the spices in Indian cooking.
I don't know why just Japanese restaurants didn't seem to mainstream here....I like the food.
Thai food when done right, has a variety of "heats" to it, and the flavors aren't overpowering. Plus, the Thai restaurant I like locally...it's all very fresh and very good quality.

There ARE quite a number of Indian and Japanese restaurants (Yoshinoia and Benihanna (sp? - both) are even chains). I have not observed disproportionately more Thai restaurants (though there are a lot in CA). I think it mainly varies on the locality and our own perceptions. For example, I see Vietnamese restaurants everywhere, but live in an area with a high concentration of Vietnamese immigrants and am even married to a Vietnamese woman, thus skewing my perception.

The popularity of any restaurant, Chinese, Thai, ribs, etc. depends on its ability to satisfy the public's taste. Apparently, people like Thai food. Personally, I'm not that great a fan.

To be honest I've gotta tell you I personally have never eaten Thai food but I have eaten Japanese & I can't believe that we have any Japanese restaurants. I think chineese food is wonderful but Japanese food is horrible. I think that pretentious people just like to say "Hey, lets go for Thai?" I really think that it makes them feel as though they're more cultured if they eat bad food from other countries. Just my opinion.

The skills of the immigrants coming to the U.S.
Most Indians that can afford to come over are professionals. How many Dr. Patels are there in your city? Mine has about 1000.

i'm not too particular the place in u . s . you propose on ingesting, or what you like, yet i think of the main suitable national chain is friendly's. they have nutrition for each palate - salads, sandwiches, burgers, chicken, fish, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, etc. and you end each meal with ice cream! My own appetizer popular is their loaded waffles fries - distinctly spiced waffle fries with melted cheese and William Maxwell Aitken bits with a facet of bitter cream and ranch dressing. My popular meal is the Honey BBQ chicken Supermelt - chicken tenders coated in Honey BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, and William Maxwell Aitken on sourdough bread with fries. And my popular ice cream is their Hunka Chunka Peanut Butter Fudge, so yummy as a chuffed ending with whipped cream and warm fudge. :)

people like a variety. the thing to remember here is that people like to eat what they are used to. most of the Chinese or any other ethnic food we eat has been "americanized", they start with a recipe but use what ingredients that are here. if you went to china, you would not get the same stuff you get here. some ethnic food just doesnt fit into what we would like.
