yesterday my bunny just sat there doing nothing, and an hour ago he was just sitting. now he's running around his cage and he keeps playing with all his toys, and hopping upwards like a nervous twitch. whats wrong? Is he seeing things? or practicing his hopping/running? I just got him from a pet shop, I don't know how old he is, at least 5 months I'd say.

You have a happy rabbit! When they jump upwards like that in the air and twitch it is called "binking". It is just him playing and having fun. When they get in a really playful mood like that they might also start randomly charging around the room, and it is nothing to be concerned about.

This is normal during the adjustment period and they sometimes do this for no reason at all, but sometimes it is due to boredom. I bought a small round dog pen to exercise my bunny so she can hop and play without chewing on my wires and she loved it. It works out really well because I don't have to follow her around the house and she gets the exercise she needs, it is kind of like walking a dog, bunnies get bored if they are in a cage all the time with no stimulation

If you got him from a pet shop he is probably pretty young. Pet shops tend to sell young bunnies because they are cute.

My guess is that he is exploring his space and he is probably a little nervous in his new home. At the pet store he had other bunnies (probably) and now he is in a new space with new people and that probably scares him. the other thing to remember about rabbits is that they are crepuscular, which means they sleep during the day and night and are most active at twilight a.m. and p.m.

You want to make him comfortable and get him used to you. Sit quietly on the floor next to him and let him explore you...don't pet him, just let him be.

when they just sit there and do nothing it means either one of two things: either the rabbit is nervous and wants to avoid being seen by a "predator" (you are the predator) or he is tired. When a bunny jumps around does strange acrobatics and plays with his toys he is happy and is playing... this is a very good thing... when a rabbit is content and relaxed they will lay on their stomach with their feet stretched outwards behind them... if this is all you see your rabbit do, don't be concerned... rabbits are most active at night so they spend most of the day sleeping..

You say you just got him from a pet shop... Was he sharing a cage with other bunnies there? If so, he will be missing their company now. Ah well, he will need to get used to his new environment anyway. Spoil him a little, see if that helps.

When he's hopping upwards like a nervous twitch, it means your rabbit is happy. It's called a Binky. My rabbit does it all the time when he's following me. Don't get confused with a binky and a quick dash. If your rabbit is dashing like crazy, it means its frightened.

It sounds like he's playing. It is sort of like a puppy or kitten that leaps and dashes around pretending they are fighting or capturing prey even when there's nothing there. Bunnies do their playing by practicing high kicks, sharp twists and turns, and tossing their toys around.

You seriously need to read up about rabbits. That twitch is a rabbits way to show its happy. You need to read the House Rabbit Handbook and go to these websites.
