it tells the name of the reporter, various info on the report, and the station number.
I need to know because I need to make one for a video project with interviews, etc. and I need to know what software will do them, preferably free GNU software.

I dont think its a ticker, that is for breaking news/stocks etc. I mean the one that sits there and says "Bill Dipwad Location: in the mall The new news channel 8 (logo here)

Well all I can think of is the News Ticker, but usually that just runs news like headlines along the bottom. Some also refer to it as a crawler because the news crawls along the bottom, runs slowly.

I believe it is called a tag line, that is what we calle them when we did cable access taping for school.Good Luck
