Pricetravel's answer is correct as far as it goes.

More details, if you want:

Alaska Airlines doesn't check ID at security, only when they issue you a boarding pass. Any government issued photo ID will work, although at the automated kiosks for issuing boarding passes, your credit card will work too.

To actually get inside security, it is TSA that checks and it must be a government issued photo ID for domestic travel. That includes flying over Canada like going Anchorage to Seattle. Driver's license is most common, but it could be military ID, a state DMV ID card, a state or federal agency ID or a passport. I've used my EPA lead-paint-inspector ID just for ha-ha's and it worked.

If you are going to land in Canada, you should have proof of US citizenship such as a birth certificate or SSN card. But it must be a passport after 12-31-06.

Alaska Airlines also flies to Mexico. Then it has to be a passport.

You CAN get on a domestic flight without your ID, although it isn't widely publicized, I've known people who did when they lost their ID - obviously people can get their wallet stolen when traveling, etc. Call ahead, bring everything you can (checkbook, credit card, etc). Maybe have a relative fax your passport from home, etc. Allow extra time (duh!) You WILL get a very serious screening in security, but I know people who've done that.

once you flow the airport, inspite of the airline, you heed a pictured id issued through a authorities entity. The DMV commonly subject matters image id's that are only id's and by no skill drivers' licenses. If it really is what you've, then you actually must be ok.

If you are a US citizen:
Drivers Liscence
or
Passport
or
Government issued photo ID
Military ID....etc..
This is assuming you are flying from the US to the US.
If you are visiting Canada, you will need a passport as of Jan 1, 2007
