I have two ferrets and they can get pretty costly. A good sized cage generally has three stories/floors to it. Also, ferrets can get depressed/bored easily and are generally better off in pairs. Another thing is, they need distemper and rabies vaccines. Buy a lot of toys, they like tunnels and such. Good luck and I hope this helps!!! :)

A large cage is required...and you might as well buy one because you'll most likely be getting more ferrets in time (ferret math...bwahaha!).
As far as using levels as a cage guideline it's not a safe one. Those superpet cages could have 5 levels but they are way too small and extremely difficult to clean. Whereas a Ferret Nation cage has only two actual levels but they are full and the cage is super roomy. I would HIGHLY recommend a Ferret Nation cage. I have 5 ferrets and have tried both the large super pet cage and a homemade cage. But they can't even compare to the FN. Another good brand is the Martins cages.
No matter how large the cage is, the ferrets still NEED at least 4 hours of playtime in a ferret proofed room (or rooms!) every day. Please make sure you are willing to do this! It takes a good deal of effort to continuosly ferret proof a room and dedication to let them out daily no matter what. Ferrets are not rodents, they are more like a hyper active puppy. Would you keep a dog in a cage 24/7?

i would say a two level would be fine for one ferret i have a two level ferret nation for my ferrets it houses all 6 of them but i also have a smaller cage that i am puting 4 in but they are blind and need a special cage i have 9 ferrets and i let them play free in the house they require at least 3 hours of free play(outside of cage) a great ferret website is www.everythingfert.proboards36.com this will answer any questions you may have i refere to the site frequently it is great also i would invest in ferret for dummies it is also a very good source of info you can get it at any pet store or have a book store order it if they dont have it in stock

If you are planning on getting just one ferret the cage doesn't need to be that big. It needs to be big enough for its food and water, bed, bathroom area, and for them to be able to move around a little bit. If you get a huge cage it might start to mess on shlves if you have any. I have two ferrets so I know how it is. Good Luck with your new pet(s).

I agree, it needs to be at least three floors and huge. Ferrets are the craziest animals ever and require a lot of room and attention. Don't just let them run loose in the house, as they will tear up everything in sight and can get stuck a lot of places. I wouldn't recommend getting a ferret if you don't like the odor of them.
