Some books are 'banned' simply since the public library has only so many dollars, and they have to prioritize what they 'buy'.

Or in reverse of that, you can go to the library and get a satanic bible, but you can't get a genuine Bible. (what's wrong with this picture?)

If someone wanted to really ban a book, them make it assigned reading in school. Besides, if people don't like the themes in a book, they shouldn't ban it. An intelligent, rational person would have those the don't want affected by the book read it and then teach them why it is not accepted. That's how a rational person would act but I have a feeling that the people banning these books are not intelligent or rational thinkers. People just don't know why these books were written. They probably banned "Tom Sawyer" because of the word "******". The word in that novel is used by an ignorant racist. Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain) was against racism and wrote to portray that ignorant character as such. "Brave New World" teaches against our modern day sex and drug obsessed society. "The Color Purple" is entirely about overcoming opression and being a better person because of it. "To Kill A Mockingbird"!!! are you kidding me? One of the most important pieces of American literature ever!!! This book is the most necessary of American anti-racist novels ever, and a wonderful example of Southern literature. The only book on that list that might possibly make sense to ban would be "The Anarchist Cookbook" which just spouts violence and ways to kill people and blow things up. All the rest are books that should never be prevented from someone reading. I can't believe how many stupid people there are in some sort of power position in the US. Believe me , I love this country, it's the greatest in the world, but sometime we get our heads up our asses so far that we do stupid things like banning books. You know who else bans books? Nazis, Communists, and Dictators. We should take a good look at how things are run in this country come next elections.

Some of my favorite books (including my all time favorite that you listed last!!) are on this list. I don't think any of these books should be banned, or any book at all for that matter. Books promote free thinking, encourage ideas, and make us grow as people. People who wish to ban them are single-minded and biased.
