They are usually the ones that people are first taught when learning. Some one told me a long time ago but I have forgotten now. Any ideas?

1, 4 and 5 and you can play most songs, in any key.
Start in A (that's 1) go to D (that's 4 steps away) go to the 5 (E)
Start in C (1) F(4) G(5)
Start in D (1) G(4) A(5)
Start in E (because it is the easiest 1 on the guitar) and go to A for the 4 and B for the 5)
Start in G go to C and then D (1-4-5)
Start in F go to A# and C
Start in B go to E and F#

You can "start in the 4 or the 5 but the key you are in is the 1 and you always go back to it, get creative! It is all in the right hand, your rhythm and/or picking that will make the songs be music, most important, have fun! That's why we call it PLAYING.
