Hi. Depends on the diameter. If the second hand was large enough the speed could get up to c, the speed of light.

Since you added that the second hand is 1 inch long, I'm assuming you are trying to get to the speed at it's outer point. So, you have a circle with a radius of 1 inch. The circumfrence, then is 2(pi)r=6.28 inches. Since it travels that distance in 1 minute, it would go 60(6.28) inches/hour, or 376.8 inches/hr. I'll let you convert that many inches/hr into miles/hr.

Yeah, unfortunately there is NOT an answer for your question. Even though you mention that the hand is one inch long, the outer tip of the hand is moving much faster than the part closest to the center of the watch--if you just pinpoint one specific point on the hand, then your question becomes a great one--with an answer.

Determine the diameter of the watch

Circumference = diameter x Pi

You know the watch goes that far in 1 minute.

Multiply by 60 minutes

Convert that to miles (5280 feet in a mile. 12 inches in a foot)

Example:

Watch is 2 inches across in diameter

Circumference is approx. 6.28 inches

6.28 inches per minute is the speed

376.8 inches per hour

376.8 inches divided by (5280 x 12)

0.00595 miles per hour

The speed is 2 * PI * R / 12h you need to convert that into miles / hour if I am correct at asuming the second hand wil be the small one ?

well, you didn't say how long it was, so all I can say is, 0mph at the base.
