Actually, hammerheads can be bought, but they are huge aggressive, and unimaginably expensive. All sharks require extremely large (preferably round) tanks . Consider a bonnethaed, they only grow six feet. Here are some of both types of sharks for sale

True sharks like Port Jackson Sharks which are available in the pet trade also grow enormous and keeping one will require a remortgage and lottery win. Brackish fish like the Columbian Catshark/Silver Tip Shark (a catfish) also needs around 150-200 gallons at least and a brackish/marine set up. Freshwater "sharks" (either catfish or cyprinids) will also need quite specific care. They're all tropical fish. The smallest available, the Rainbow and Red Tailed Black sharks grow to around 6" are territorial towards any other shark-liked fish, they need at least a 20-30 gallon tank. Bala Sharks grow to around 12" and need to be in a shoal in at least a 6ft long tank. Pangasius or Iridescent Sharks grow to 2-3ft long and need at least an 8-10ft tank or indoor pond. Choose anything labelled as "shark" wisely with a ton of research beforehand!!!!

1) you'll need to check your local city ordanaces for pets like sharks, some of them require special licnces.

2) You'r looking at several thousand for proper equipment & a large enough tank that has constant moving water, the circular tanks that allow the sharks to swim in an oval (think race track) path are best for sharks

Nope. Sharks (meaning the saltwater variety) are not limited by their tank size and will out grow it a hurry.. Then you are faced with either letting it die or returning to the ocean at a huge expense (public aquariums will NOT take sharks from hobbyists).

Even the smallest sharks (bamboos), will reguire ATLEAST a 125 gallon aquarium, which is still fairly cruel as these sharks grow a little over 3 feet in length (in addition, they are nocturnal and do not have to swim to breath....in other words, they sit around all day and sleep - boring).

If your back yard is the ocean you can.

What you can have is a rainbow shark, red tail shark, or bala shark to name a few. You'd need at least a 50 gallon tank for him to be happy.

a Hammer head NO !, there are thousands of specie of sharks, some are small enough for a tank, pet stores have them, a salt water tank is hard work, I think there's a mini fresh water one though about 1.5 " long.

My mom had a small hammerhead shark as a pet in college. It is possible to have a small one as a pet, her's wasn't large at all... it was small enough to flush down a toilet so... yes, you can have a small hammerhead as a pet, but no idea where to get one or anything.
