...without one of those wrapping devices? i want to change my guitar strings but i don't have a winder (i think thats what it's called..or something like that...) please explain to me in detail how you do this-and don't tell me to buy a winder because i could have thought of that myself-and don't tell me to take it to someone else to fix it..i want to fix it purley by myself. thank you.

this guy shows you on to restring with and without the string winder, but it's a pretty big video download:

for a smaller size video, this guy on YouTube will show you how to restring a guitar ... he does use the string winder at one point, but just use your fingers instead to turn the tuning head(s) in the same direction ...

when changing a string, after you run the string through the bridge or in the body if it has pegs, turn the tuner at the top of the guitar (this is called a machine head) so the hole lines up to slide the string through. alow enough string so you can wrap it around about 4 times so the string does not slip. than tune it to pitch.

okay, turn your tuners to where the strings are loose, and then take the strings out of the top of the guitar where they are wound, and then grab a spoon, and pop out the nuts, (plastic things that hold the strings in place) at the bottom of the strings... and dispose of strings yes..
