Yaoi is a term for a publishing genre which originated in Japan and often encompasses manga, doujinshi (self-published comics), anime, or fan art. It focuses on homosexual relationships between male characters and is generally sexually explicit. Some in the West consider yaoi to be synonymous with shōnen-ai or "Boy Love", which focuses on similar themes, however, shōnen-ai is defined as not containing the sexually explicit material usually found in yaoi. In Japan, shonen-ai is no longer a manga/anime term, instead being used to refer to pederasty.

Yaoi means gay, or boy's love in Japanese...
Shounen-Ai, however, is considered a yaoi type,but it's not so bad as yaoi manga. If you want to read or watch yaoi anime or manga, try shounen-ai first to be safe.

Yaoi is gay anime or gay manga. The term is derived from a male expression. When a guy sticks his reproductive organ into another guys anus. The guy who's bentover yelps and exclaims "yaoi!"

I have friends who read manga, and i kinda remember it meaning boy on boy action. It could be girl on girl, but the point is the book is about a homesexual pairing.
