when i go off of the high dive at the Ymca which its 10 feet of water i freak out because i dont know how far down i am.. what can i do to get rid of this fear because last weak i almost drownded because of it... thanks

i agree...arching your back will cause you to curve upward toward the surface...as we taught students in dive class, never panic and kick to the surface, holding one arm above thier head...not only does it give the student a sense of relief when they relize they are only sec from the surface, but it gives anybody on the surface an idea that a diver is in the water....so good luck and practice, try this, go to the bottom of the pool with a dive mask and practice what i suggested, it might help you overcome your fear....

Open your eyes and learn to judge the distances under water. Use goggles and practice.***Good luck

IT IS EASY TO OVERCOME THIS FEAR. REMEMBER, WATER IS YOUR FRIEND AND A WONDERFUL CUSHION. AS SOON AS YOUR BODY ENETERS THE POOL ARCH YOUR BACK AND FLATTEN OUT SO YOU DONOT GO SO DEEP.
