Name him what you want, you carried him for nine months and it was your body that went through all the changes and pain that comes along with it. I know it was worth it and what a blessing our kids are but I give all women credit for going through that so maybe run that by him and he will agree and after a while you both will be happy to be calling out to your little Ned.

Whatever name you choose if people want to they will find a way to make fun of it.
Think more about the whole name - ie not just the Ned bit - think what it has to go with and what that will sound like. As an extreme example someone with the surname Head would (hopefully) never call their child Richard.
Also be careful with initials - as these can often lead to some humourous results too (by brother is NAF!)
Ned isn't a particularly old name in my opinion, and it will make him unique in his class at school (I expect) unlike all the Brads and Toms

The name Ned instantly reminds me of Ned Kelly. I'm not sure exactly who he was. An outlaw from the old Wild West I think. I can only imagine an old red-neck sitting on a rocking chair with a shaggy beard spitting tobacco in an old rusty tin. Ha-Put-Tang! Sorry, but calling your son Ned might draw others to give the same opinion.

i would never make fun of someone's name because i have an unusual name as well, but there are plenty of others who would. i think that the first thing that pops into my head when i hear the name Ned is Ned Flanders on The Simpsons. but if you dont mind the comparison, go for it.

No. I would never make fun of anyone's name.
But Ned sounds awfully short. Are you sure it isn't a nickname for a longer name?
Remember that a name can influence a person's entire life and how other people perceive him. If you give him a name that causes people to respect him you will give him a good start in life.

Ned is a cool name, but it does make him sound kind of old.

God. You are a married adult and you watch a kids show on Nickelodion and you want to name your kid after one of the main characters. Oooooooookay. Yeah he'd be made fun of because the name Ned is just a letter away from Nerd.
