Ferns need liquid water to reproduce. So my answer would be wet.

The same type of climate you find ferns in now.

Warm, temperate climates with adequate moisture.

Think! You wouldn't expect to find ferns in an arid climate or tundra today would you? Why would it be any different millions of years ago?
