I want to try to find a NICE dress fo new years. I was thinking about making one. I need somethings that is modest; not really tight and doesn't show a ton of skin, and I don't really want it to be sleeveless.. thats my definition of modest in a nutshell.
If you have any suggestions on:
1. if I should buy a dress or make it
2. where i can get dress patterns (i don't know if walmart has good formal-ish patterns or not...)
3. whats a good place to get a new years dress?
or anything of the subject, that would be great. I don't think I'll be able to purchase anything online, except maybe for ebay but I'm not too sure that that would be a good idea because i won't know if it fits me and looks right.

help me decide what o do! and how to do it!

One more thing- I have a really small budget. Meaning, I probably can't spend more than 25-30 bucks on a dress

go to a formal fress store...or Ross...they have a lot of dresses right now because of homecomming....or if your really good at making clothes its not a bad idea....you can pick the exact color and cut you want

new years is a big thing. i really think unless you have made a dress before this event and it just turned out fabulous i wouldnt trust yourself and beside alot of the nice fabrics cost lotsa money per yard. So i would go buy it if your into vintage totally hit up the thrift stores and stuff but if you want something a little more now then i would hit up like the sales racks at like DEBS or Body Central or even maybe jc pennys. I think the color red would probally look really good for the new year. hope this helps

I am not a lady but this is what I think:

It's new years so you should have something sexy, and conservative (cause that's what you want). I think you should make it because it always gives you a topic of conversation more intriquing then, "I bought this at..."

I found a nice looking dress online that I think would be pretty decent, but I don't like the pink. On second thought, it's just a skirt and shirt... Still looks nice.

My second choice is this green one shows more skin (arms) but I like the scarf because it adds a, "I'm hot in the winter" look to it.

These are what I think you should look to make, although I liked a lacey one (my third link) the best.

Consider thrift stores and consignment shops for high-end "special occasion" clothing. The prices will be at least half (if not less) than you would expect to pay at a full-service department store. Looking for vintage? Check out eBay for patterns of vintage evening gowns. There are some stunning vintage dresses! Check out lingerie also. Many lingerie items are suitable for evening wear.

if that's your budget...hit the sale racks in the dept stores. don't make it...it'll cost more...(depending on the fabric) and may not come out right....in the end.
