I am 39 years old and since my teens have always worked in my field, but I always get "great ideas" and spend money on real estate cd's or other similar "work from home" ideas. I make okay income but who would not want more. I can't seem to be satisfied with my decent job and my good company. Help I stress myself!

First of all in answer to your question you will not stop asking yourself that question unless you try it and then you will be asking it in reverse if you did do it. The grass always looks reener on the other side it rarely is greener in fact it is more a nightmare!
I had a fantastic well paid job and loathed the nine to five pace i used to wonder what it would be like to be my own boss, be able to come and go as i please, earn more money, have more time for holidays. My list is endless as i am sure yours is however I did make that move and although I do not regret it this is the other side.
My nine to five is now 25 hours per day!
My five day a week has become 8 days a week!
My time is now money so I work harder.
My money now has to pay not just for everything it did before but also stock/advertising/staff.
My holiday time which was six weeks per year plus bank holidays is now reduced to one week per year ten days at most. I cant just leave business to run itself and when away it comes with me!
I do not want to make it sound as if it is all bad it is not just a lot of hard work, lot of sacrfice, committment etc it is also a growing expanding business that is doing well and just started to reap rewards but it has taken 4 years to get to this point.
If you want to do it do it but just be prepared for the ups and downs. Good luck.

Being self employed usually means 12-14 hour work days, 7 days a week, at least for the first several years. Are you ready for that kind of committment? If not, then stop thinking about it. The grass is no greener anywhere else.

Try harder to be happy with what you do have. A lot of us have out here in the world have much less and manage to do ok.

And the next time you see that BMW or Mercedes driving down the road. Think of the monthly payment and the insurance, and the bloated size of the loan it took. And think about the cost of repairing even a small scratch on the paint.

It's human nature to think the grass is always greener on the other side. But if you have a good career, be happy with it! There is always a trade off. Being self-employed is riskier so you'd be giving up the security of your current job. Sure, you could make a fortune. Or you could go bankrupt. Are you willing to risk everything? Don't stress yourself. You can have whatever you want. Just decide what that is & be willing to do the work that it takes. Remember, once your on the other side of the fence your current job might start looking pretty good & you may regret leaving a sure thing for a chance...

Good luck, whatever you decide! Be happy!

I'm self employed. Been on both sides of the fence.

There will always be the feeling of "the grass is greener"....even if you're self employed. The trick is realizing that there is green grass...right now...under your feet. Did I remember to feel it? Enjoy it? Be proud of getting it?

You cannot define yourself by making more money. You seem preoccupied with that. Look at what has brought you happiness in the past that didn't have to do with money and try that.
