I have to chime in on this thread. I have heard of women electing to have a Caesarian because of convenience, or fear, and any doctor who complies with such a request should have his license yanked. A Caesarian is major surgery with 6-8 weeks to full recovery; after delivering vaginally you can walk out of the delivery room if you choose. After all, women have been doing this for thousands of years. There are multiple risks to both you and your child with a Caesarian; do some research on line to learn more details.

Childbirth is what is called a “peak experience” and no woman capable of birthing a child vaginally should refuse it. I promise it will be the most thrilling and joyful experience of your life.

There are a lot of scare stories out there and some women seem to take pleasure in frightening new moms-to-be. Pay no attention to them. You are not an invalid and childbirth is not a disease. Once the cervix is fully dilated, there will probably be a few painful minutes (called “transition”); it doesn’t last long and you can put up with anything as long as you know it’s only temporary. Any pain relief will also affect your baby, and you don’t want that!

Now you move into actual labor, the work of pushing the baby out. This is the most pleasurable part of the experience, like one extended orgasm. No woman should be denied this! To experience these moments again, I would have had a dozen children - if I didn’t have to raise them afterwards!

The cause of the pain that many women report is fear. It acts on the muscles that work during labor, tightening them so they cannot do their job properly. A must-read book is Grantly Dick-Read’s “Childbirth Without Fear.” If your library doesn’t have it, order it through Interlibrary Loan. It will change your outlook on childbirth.

Good luck, and please, make a healthy decision for you and your baby!

C-sections are how over 42% of all babies are delieved in the US - the chances of your Dr wanting you to have a c-section are probably high. C-sections are quicker for the Dr and are what they usually like to do (if they say so or not). I know in some hospitals you can set up an appointment for a C-section. I would talk to your Dr and about what you want and take it from there. I'm sure everything will work out for the best. Good luck and Congrats!

Be completely honest with your Doctor. A natural birth is better for both of you medically - gestational diabetes is not a reason on it's own to have a c- section. There are actually more risks with a c-section than natural birth because it's a surgery. And no, you don't always get your way once labor starts......... but they are always ready for any emergency so either way you will be blessed with a beautiful baby!

There is more a chance of complications and infection with a c-section. They are safe, however, are avoided if possible. Most hospitals and insurances will not encourage or pay for an elective c-section. Frame size has little to do with childbirth. A friend of mine who is 5 foot, about 110 pounds, just gave birth NATURALLY to a 10 pound even baby.

After recovering from two c-sections, I would not voluntarily want one if I could deliver natural.

In many countries, cesarean sections are increasing partly because this procedure is chosen by the your doctor, because it is safer than say a difficult forceps delivery. Sometimes, however, interventions earlier in labour , such as induction or epidural anesthetic, may lead to a situation in which a cesarean becomes more likely. If a c section is recommended, your doc should give you clear reasons why, even in an emergency. You need to chat with your doctor and tell him or her your concerns it is major surgery and usually preformed for complications. good luck to you! your almost there congrats

no but let me tell you some stuff that may make you change your mind. natural births hurt yes...but when you have contractions and it squeezes your belly it also squeezes your baby and all that mucusy stuff that your baby has been using to breath inside you comes out so that their lungs are not "squeshy" when they come out...with a c-section the babies has a much harder time adjusting to breathing due to the baby having so much junk in its lungs. It is a lot healthier for the baby to actually go through the stress of birth because it makes them stronger if that makes since...If their is a complication with the birth the doc. can have your baby out in 60 sec. with what they call an emergency c-section...Honestly...you do not have a choice..but natural birth is a lot healthier for your baby and you. Good luck honey..i hope I helped you feel differently..Just relax and trust your doc. They wont do ANYTHING to put you or your baby in harm...promise

It's your choice, but keep in mind that a C-section is major abdominal operation, cutting through several layers of muscle and your uterus. I would personally rather have a natural vaginal birth. It takes less time to get over, less painful, and you won't have to worry about infection of the incision, which can get quite nasty.

Natural, it's called that for a reason.

You don't have a choice unless you have already had a C-Section. Talk with your doc and if he/she thinks you are at risk then he will give you one but if he/she hasn't already said something to you then you are probably not at risk. But even healthy women have ended up needing a C-Section due to some form of complication during labor. C-Sections are risky and can expose your body to infection from being open, and plus it take longer to heal because you have stitches or staples from where they cut you open.

it is your choice, but in reality, you should go for natural. babies are better off that way, since the fluid in their lungs gets pushed out when they squeeze throught the birh canal. plus, c-sections will leave you with a nasty scar, and terrible pain, as well as long healing time. you can always try vaginally, and then if you can't do it with drugs and time, opt for the c-section.
