I just bought a Subaru Baja, and have pickup truck plates on it. Can I drive it on Lakeshore drive? I know "trucks" are banned, but it seems that all kinds of huge SUV's drive there. Is my car banned there?

You're NOT supposed to drive your truck on Lake Shore Drive. Period. I know because I was a passenger in a friend's truck that was stopped by the cops. Sorry if it doesn't seem fair that big honkin' SUVs and Hummers and such can drive on LSD, but them's the rules. Any anyone who says they do drive their truck on LSD and haven't gotten busted should consider themselves lucky.

Oh, and to all of the "Chicagoans" (most likely college grads who moved here a few years ago after work), take a drive from Hollywood to, say, 55th St. and count how many pick-up trucks you see on the drive. I'm guessing that after the end of that ride, both ways, you can count them all on one hand.

I was up in Chicagoland earlier this week and asked this same question. I was told by a local, you can but no commercial motor vehicles. It might be an urban legend because I imagine not a whole lot of people in that part of town are into pickup trucks.

I have always been told you can't drive a pickup on Lake Shore Drive unless it has a camper top.

But I wouldn't know for sure. It might just be an urban myth.

I would love to know the truth about this.
