I really want to get a well paying job, I do have one but not nearly enough for a single mother trying to make it so her son can grow up comfortably. I am going to be given the chance to go back to school and get my degree. Seems easy and it sort of is but what do i get my degree in? I dont even know waht job I would enjoy and if I go through that much stress and years of school just to get to a job that is just like the one I have now I will feel like i wasted my life for nothing. Im lost on the fact that is there anything out there that makes a lot of money that I know I will be safe in.

Just getting a degree is valuable. I think if you get something that can be used in different fields you will be better off. Teaching. Counseling. Therapist. MBA. Social Worker. A masters is good. Don't worry so much about the specificts. You can take a master's degree in social work and get a minor you can use business (health care). You could have a minor in business for example. It is a big investment. And the master usually takes an extra year, but you will be glad you got that. Civil Service is a good field. Job security. States usually have good pay scales and retirement, insurance, Etc.

If you are really not sure, you can take a vocational aptitude test. IF the state is funding your education you can ask them. There are some online.

Good luck.

i'm experiencing the same thing right now. i have a decent job and am pretty well paid, but i have been doing this for 3.5 years and i dont have anything else that i'm eager to learn here. i'm pondering if i should work in the same industry or if i should take a switch to other career. the problem is i don't know what career it should be, because doing what you like best doesn't always translate to enough salary and bright future career. all i can say is, talk with as many people as you can, and look for opportunities, be careful when you pick your job. you have to remember also that a job is often time just a job and you cant enjoy it too much as long as you are not dreading while you're doing it. Good luck!

When i was at school we did a gender swap. The boys did cookery and the girls did woodwork. The girls complained so much that we had to change back, us boys were well upset. I recently did a 4 day bricklaying course and loved it. I asked the teacher why more people didn't want to get their hands dirty, and he simply said 'more jobs for you then'. Try not to look at 'traditional' men and womens jobs, keep your options open. Good luck.

find something that you LOVE TO DO

if you take a job doing something you don't really enjoy, you will not only have an unhappy life, you will never rise to the top paying positions in your chosen field.
