Remember that those numbers are averages, with some being lower and some being higher.

Most schools will have stated requirements. Mine was that you had to graduate in the top 50% of your class and score at least 23 on your ACT. (sorry I don't know how that compares to the SAT). My school is a private university but those are the requirements for many public universities that I looked into as well.

If you are concerned, call the school and schedule an appointment with an admissions councelor. They will be more than happy to meet with you and if they think that your odds of getting in are not good they may be able to help you come up wiht some creative solutions, for example going to a community college for 1 year to get your GPA up and retaking the SAT after attending a special preparation class. Also some universities offer a "clean slate" program where you can get in even if you don't meet the requirements but you go on academic probation, so that if your GPA drops below a certian number you get kicked out.

Good luck and God bless you!

I would say your chance is slightly below average. If your average GPA is 3.4, it means that half the students had a GPA below it, same for the SAT's. Saying 1 in 5 chances is pretty much untrue. I would say you have about 1 in 3. If you had gotten above average SAT, I would have thought you had a pretty good 50/50 chance.

You should get in. Why? If your recommendations are really strong that alone will get you in. Colleges look closely at recommendations. Also at the written essay. Those two are just as important as grades, maybe even stronger than grades when it comes time to accept students to the school.
