where do they come up with the names of the characters in movies and tv shows***

I'm not sure how they do it, but my uncle is a writer and he has a book that has a bunch of names from different countries and what they mean. I guess you would match the meaning to the character's personality. Also, the writer might name a character after a person who is close to him/her.

The writers are the ones who name the characters, and to some degree if the producers and directors don't like something they can make the changes
