My Dad! I know I've known him all my life but we have a really special connection. More often than not we used to fight/bicker/debate (way too much alike) but at the beginning of this year he had a massive brain haemorrage (pardon the spelling it's late), everything was touch and go for a good few weeks. Anyway, the stubborn old sod pulled himself out of it and was VERY lucky. No disabilities, could walk, talk, swear, the lot and is now living a great life. It is the stubborness and determination that he drilled into me as a child, which I used to kick against, that brought him through to the other side. I love my Dad!!!!

Mother-Her creativity when times were hard. She cooked with flair and joy even when ingredients were simple. She canned from the garden to stretch our budget. She was honest and kind, never speaking an unkind word about anyone.
Father-Very social. Everyone he met was a potential friend.
Favorite Aunt-Worked very hard and taught me to do the same. Her sense of humor made her a joy to be around.
3rd grade teacher-Made me feel special and smart.
Helen Keller-an inspirational person and writer.
Mark Twain-Great writer and seeing how he handled his own difficult times in life. His wit and sense of humor.
Emily Dickenson-Inspired me to write. Her writing is detailed and exquisite.
Most everyone you meet can inspire you in some way, if you stop and pay attention.

Hmm... let me define:

1. My Hero; a Paramedic: for once in my life a father figure of sorts held me and kept me from futher harm. He gave me courage, comfort and safety when I needed it the most. I know deep down - in my heart - that he was just doing his job but at the same time gave me much more then he will ever know. I have no right to search for him so I wish that some day I can stand tall, point to my Hero and thank him for his kindness.

2. My local Police Department: Ever since I was a kid I actually listened to them 'no drugs, stay safe, expand your education level, volunteer'. When I discovered my family will never encourage me... I made them my family. Sure they don't know that... I respect them a lot and wish that one day I will make them proud.

3. Peter Canning: A Paramedic and author. I read his autobiography a few months ago... My goal is to write the way he does. Captures the reader and pulls them into the story and it's so clear it's like a movie. I talked to him once and will never forget his words.

4. My father: who influenced me to never fall into his steps. He was never there for me and never took the time to learn that as a teenager I need his encouragement. I grew up before I understood myself. I have learned from his lies and drama. All my life I wanted a dad who hugs me anytime to say he loves me - but it's far too late.

5. My best friend: who was always there for me and reads me like an old favorite book just unearthed from a shelf, covered with dust. She is the best.

6. A firefighter: I asked his partner and him for their autograph. They were more then happy too but he had the most beautiful eyes. Deep ocean blue, sparkling eyes that have seen too much. I wish I'd never gone back to him and ask him to read my writing. But I did and those eyes captured me into their beauty. I have yet to see such eyes again and wish to someday draw them to perfection and the way I saw them... the eyes that have seen too many hearts stop beating, too much fire, too many tears, children cry... the eyes of a firefighter.

Right about now... I'm left speechless. I've meet many people who put a positive influence on my life but there are some moments I spent with them that I'd never trade at gunpoint.

Stay safe please. - Maryam

Honesty tell you the truth, it was George Bush.
After seeing him I got confidence to do anything.
I was scared to do engineering thinking it was hard but after seeing Bush, I did engineering.
I confidently spoke to girls.
I began to think I could achieve anything in this world

You want to know why I got confidence after watching Bush being president.

I thought "IF A MORON CAN BECOME THE MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE WORLD, WHY CAN'T I BE A SUCCESSFUL MAN".

1. My mom - showed me how to be kind even when it was painful!
2. One of my sisters - showed me how to be tough and smart without overreacting and getting stuck on myself.
3. Old boyfriend - showed me how to enjoy sex without company. I know - TOO much information, but you asked.
4. My pastor - how to forgive myself
I guess that's it. I don't have 6 more. I'm 45 already - I hope I find them before it's too late.
