At a certain school all the pupils who are fasting have to take part in phsyical education in which they have to take part in football or basket ball or in some cases cross country. the letter states that if any pupil feels disy or that they can not take part of the lesson that they would be treated however the school expect them to get dressed then when they are out of energy they can be excused. is there any law that can out line this stupid school policy?

not that i am aware of but if you are fasting explain this to them and get a letter from parents of whoever to explain you will not be taking part.

You can get your parents to talk to the principal of the school and explain the situation. The class would still require you to dress in the proper gym attire, but the rest of the class will just be wondering why you get to be excused.

It is well understood that Muslims and some Christians go through a period or periods of fasting through their respective religious year. I think it is a disgrace to expect children who are fasting, for whatever reason, to have to take part in any physical activity above and beyond reading and writing, both of which are physically undemanding.

Fasting isn`t forced on children or on sick people its their choice if you are fasting get a note from your parents to ask for you to be excused and they will have to at least they will if im right in thinking your in England you sound like you are.

If you have a letter from your parent or legal guardians, then you can't be forced to do PE. This will be class as abuse and harassment. If your over 16 years of age, then its your choice and again no one can force you.

Why are you fasting in school? Phy. Ed. is important. Children need nourishment, and just because you may be in Jr. or H.S. you are still a child and need nourishment. Are you using fasting as an excuse to be lazy? That would be my first guess.

Actually, most state laws require that you perform in phys. ed classes and only allow "doctor excused" absences. That's just the way it is.

currently work in a school where some children are fasting so they are sent outside to play while the other children eat their lunches..personally i don't think religion or vegetarianism should be forced on any child...let them eat..!!!!
