I need a good book or DVD on astronomy or cosmology for beginners.

Actually I have Elegant Universe and A Brief History of Time, the elegant universe is pretty good. But neither is good for someone just diving into astronomy and cosmology. I want something a little more simple to start out with. I'd like to start out by just learning about our solor system, and then go from there.

The Elegant Universe is a great DVD. You can watch the whole thing for free online here:

A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking is also a really awesome book. Its pretty short and easy to understand.

It's 20 years old, but still a gem, the "Cosmos series by Carl Sagan" on DVD. I have and I watch episodes again and again!

"The whole shebang" by Timothy Ferris is the best I've found.
