I'm a 7th grader in 8th grade advanced math. I don't want the answer to the problem I just want to know if I am doing it right.

2x + 4 = -2

First I wrote out the problem and subtracted 4 from -2 and 4.
Getting
2x = 2

So x = 2 or did I miss a step? Quick answers will be loved.

2x + 4 = -2
2x + 4 - 4 = -2 - 4
2x = -6 (not 2)
2x/2 = -6/2
x = ?
There you go. All the work without the answer.
You can't subtract a negative number from a negative number and end up with a positive number. That's where you went wrong the first time. Also, 2x = 2 does not give you x = 2. it would have been x = 1, but that's not right.

nope, subtract 4 from -2 which gives -6. then divide by 2 which gives a result of x = -3. You can always check your answer by plugging your answer into the equation,
2(-3) + 4 = -6 + 4 = -2

WRONG! Look at this. if x=2 that means that 2x2+4=neg 2
I think u did good steps but subtracted it wrong.

2x+4=-2
-4 -4
2x=-6
-6 devided by 2 =-3 soooo x=-3
get it?
check it with a calculator if ur not sure

If you subtract 4 from -2 (-2-4) you get -6. So 2x=-6. and x=-3. So your process was right but your arithmetic was wrong.

2x + 4=-2
First u take the 4 out by minusing 4-4 and -2-4 to get 2x=-6
u should know 2x=-6
x=-3

You are wrong...

2x + 4 = -2

subtract 4 from both sides, you get -2 - 4 on the right side... this is -6

2x = -6

divide both sides by 2...

x = -3

Always remember to check your answers... 2*2 +4 does not equal -2

You messed up. What you should do is:

Move the numbers on to one side and variables on the other.
2x +4 = -2 which is 2x = -2- 4

Now simplify from there.
2x = -6

Then divide 2 from each side to get one x
2x/2 = -6/2

Simplify
x= -3
