The Statue of Liberty is on Liberty Island, which was called Bedloe's Island until 1956 when the name was officially changed.

I think you'll find that only the pedestal was built on Bedloes' island ----- the actual statue was constructed in France and shipped to America on the French frigate ''Isere '' in 1885.
