Listen here.

Scottrade has $7 per order - whether buying or selling.

TD Ameritrade has $9.99.

And there are a bunch of others too.

Before you ask a question about the cost to purchase - you need to know the price of the shares fluctuate (but you probably know this already).

A great site to link onto and watch is clearstation.etrade.com.

It's free, and you can track your portfolio for free as if you bought Valero, Exxon and Pepsi. Then you'll see the real reason that I'm telling you this is because the cost is less of an issue as TIMING becomes the central focus - as stocks have a moving average and trend up and down all the time. You want to buy at a timed point. This is what Investor's Business Daily is all about - timing good companies with good fundamentals and growth.

Good Luck!

I'm not going to just give you a list of stocks or websites because that wouldn't really answer your question, would it?

Ok, first off, there are companies (and their stocks) at about any price.

What you'd probably want to know is how much and what is a good company to invest in.

You can do some fundamental analysis to figure out which of those are the ones you're most interested in investing in.

As for who to purchase stocks from, there's a number of online brokers that can sell you what you'd like. Good ones include E*Trade, Scottrade, Ameritrade, Optionsxpress and so forth.

Commissions would be about $10 a trade. Pretty cool, eh?

Hope that helps!

The cost depends. Some companies will let you buy directly from them for a discount (anywhere from 3% to 10%)
