On the computer I usually just click on the minimize button so that it disappears temporarily from the screen. There is also a small rear-view style mirror that is made to stick onto a corner of your monitor with velcro tape. When it is there nobody could come up behind you without your realizing it

I cannot stand someone hovering over me, even when I'm not typing anything private. When someone walks up behind me I immediately minimize all windows, turn to them and ask how I can help them. If they want to assume they caught me doing something private, that's their prerogative, but they usually seem to assume I am simply giving them my full attention.

BE HONEST....
It is always best, to be honest, because if you try to cover anything up, it usually will come back to haunt you or will make the situation worse.

click into another window quickly
if they ask what you are doing, just say that you are doing something boring that wouldn't interest them, such as homework if you are in school, or writing memos for work or something, that seems to work best w/ me!

I would tell this person "do you mind? this is none of your business. " and ask that person would he/she likes it if you go see and see what that person is typing privately.

always keep another window open besides the one you're working in. if someone walks up you can minimize the window and it will look as if you're workin in the other one.
