Yes, I took it for a year. It's definatly not a quick fix, try EVERYTHING ELSE BEFORE USING IT. When I was on it they had to have my blood drawn once a month to make sure my liver was functioning properly, my lips were basically chapped the whole time, and I got realllllly depressed from the medication (It's one of the side effects) I remember one day I came home from school and I was just watching TV and I cried for 2 hours, for no reason and I was just sad all the time. Its definatly not fun. It's also a pain to fill the perscription because its regulated by the Government like HARDCORE. It's seriously a pain in the ***, but if you've tried everything else take it. It basically makes all the acne you will ever have come out in the first 2-3 months, so your acne gets bad, then it starts clearing up, and by the time your done you should'nt ever have acne again at all. Maybe the occasion stress zit, but its usually the size of a pin head, im glad I went through with it an used it but dont use it for just a quick fix.

My brother took Accutane when he was in highschool. H e had a serious acne problem back then. The dermatologists who gave it to him made it very clear that this is the kind of treatment u can only get once or twice in your life. It is very drastic. Because medicine is filtered through the liver u have to take blood tests every month, to make sure that u don't put burden on ur liver, or u might have other more serious problems. Ur skin dires up and it show, mostly on ur lips and hands so u need to put vaseline on all the time. Also, during the six months that u take the pills (that's how long the treatment usually lasts) u CANNOT get pregnant or the baby will have SERIOUS birth defects, as some other people here have suggested. If u are overweight, or ur nutrition is not good, u may not even be allowed to start treatment in the first place. This is the last method u should resort to. If u are a teenager, it's better to try anything else. Most cases of acne clear up just fine once ur older (not comforting i knoe, but it's true.) The results though are magnificent, there is much less scarring and u probably won't have any problem again, except for a pimple or twi here and there. The choice is up to you, but i'm against it...

I used it and it was a pain... but it worked like a charm! I'd tried everything else and before the six months was up I was completely acne free! (although I did get very chapped lips). I had to go once a month to have my blood drawn for a pregnancy test they require girls to take, and sometimes they may require you to go on birth control as well.

But, about three years after I used it I started to break out again. At one point it got pretty bad. I guess there's a percentage of people that need a second 6-month dosage. I also think it is pretty hard on your liver... I haven't taken it again and currently my skin is so-so.

Another negative aspect is that it SUPER EXPENSIVE. One dermatogolist said that insurance should cover it because acne is considered a disease, but when I took it, we paid for it and it was a pretty penny.

Accutane can work very well, but it's something you'll need to heavily consider.

Although technically it has passed scientific studies and all that, it can have some nasty side effects and ruin your liver. I've known people who have used it and their skin cleared up, but I'm not sure what the long term effects are. I know that it can make skin very dry too.

You can't use it if you're pregnant--birth defects.
