Here's my theroy why Pluto is no longer considered a planet:

You know that robot they sent into space a fw months ago. You know the one that's gonna get to Pluto in ten years. Well people were complaining to NASA that they wasted all that on it. When in ten years, they will have cheaper and better stuff to make it out of. So NASA declassified Pluto. Why? Because it will get the people thinking, "well we don't know enough. We though is was a planet for a long time and know it isn't. Maybe it was a good idea to send it up into space." See that makes the people quite down thinking there's a good reason to send it into space. But they don't know the real reason why it was declassified. Now NASA probably never change it back. Why? Because when it lands on Pluto and if they said that the public would complain saying "what!!! so we were right all along it is a planet. And you spent how much to refind that out?!?!?

so there is the reason my friend

You're not bad. You can believe what you like and it won't affect Pluto one way or another. Pluto's status in the heavens hasn't changed since it was recently demoted. The only change that's happened is in the minds of (a minority of) astonomers who chose to vote on the matter.

However, it did appear that the previous definition of a planet was inadequate for our current understanding of the solar system. I'd be inderested in hearing how you would define the word planet.

No one can stop you from believing anything you want to believe. Just don't tell anyone and you will be okay. You will only become a bad person if you start to believe a lot of stuff that isn't true and then they will lock you up. So keep it to yourself okay?

p.s. I believe that Pluto was a real dog, and a real planet. Yikes, there are two things, I had better watch out!

of course not although a planet is now defined as a large formation in space that has its own gravitational field. The definition was changed because with the old definition many things qualified including our moo n and several of jupiter's moons, but many people still regard pluto as a planet

The only serious effect so far from Pluto being demoted has been a hit on Disney Shares.

Not at all. A rose by any other name, right?

And in 15 years they'll probably declare Pluto a planet again. I guess scientists need something to spend all their grant money on.

Then you should accept the other 200 or other planetoids in our solar system that are larger than Pluto to also be planets. So by your definition our solar system has around 200 planets in it.

You go right ahead and call it what ever you want! You can call it a hamburger if you want to. No label we give it will change the fact that Pluto exists, and is a pretty neat object to learn about and study, too!
