www.pricewatch.com this site shows most recent prices for various components across a wide range of prices and retailers

Well I typically use TigerDirect or Pricewatch for my initial searches. Then I check the local stores like Best Buy, etc.

Once I have the prices from each, I look to see if the price + shipping is worth buying it online, or is it just as reasonable to buy it locally for only a few dollars difference.

Retail stores like Best Buy and CompUSA recently had sales on hard drives. I sugegst you check and see if those are still going on... You could also try outpost.com, which is the online site for Frye's. I doubt they'll beat NewEgg, but prices might be very close.

more cost-effective to get a clean problematic stress. problematic drives are huge and cheap now. you will get them at Walmart even! only make certain you recognize in the experience that your problematic stress is: PATA, IDE, SATA, SATA II, SCSI, and so on. you want to get the right plug variety, or it will be like putting a sq. in a circle formed plug.
