Cappucino is espresso with a bit of milk foam on top.
Espresso is coffee but it's brewed to be more concentrated. One shot of espresso (which is about 2 ounces) has the amount of caffeine of one cup of coffee (8 ozs or so). It has a much stronger taste than coffee.
But, ultimately, coffee beans are used to make both only for espresso (to make cap) the roast is dark like french, italian, or espresso roast. You wouldn't use a light roast to make espresso.
Also, the beans for espresso are ground very fine so that the water can be passed through faster.
