The idea is that "they" (enemies of America) "hate us and our freedoms" with the implication that "they" will come over here and enslave us, and force us to live by Shira [sp?] Islamic law.

This is absurd, but that's what they have in mind when they spew this gunk.

Plus, it's always said of our military, no matter what the truth of the situation is, that they "fight for our freedoms." It's almost an article of faith to many Americans, as though we were in danger of being taken over by the countries we attack.

Why do they keep saying it?

Because they're brain-dead, ignorant, fear-mongering, monstrosities who think by saying this over and over that everyone else will believe them and cave in to their their views.

Charlie you couldn't be more wrong. Bush wasn't elected in 2000, he was appointed by the Supreme Court, and in 2004 he was put back in power through massive voter fraud courtesy of the Diebold company. The bush regime is nothing but a crbon copy of the Third Reich. The Bush Regime planned and executed 9/11 in order to emplement the biggest threat to our freedoms- the PATRIOT Act. And who says he'll be leaving come January 2009? His dictatorship could be totlly solidified by then, then you all you Bushite can welcome the Four Reich.

As Franklin said: " He who gives up liberty for safety deserve neither liberty nor safety".

Yes, we were attacked, all you Cons. By Al-Quaida. Try as you may, you have to realize how weak your arguments that Saddam was a real threat to us were. He wasn't. Afgahnistan is a war fought against our real enemies, the ones who actually attacked us. Iraq is another matter entirely.

Cons are also fond of saying "Freedom Isn't Free"

No kidding? The price is security. You can try to have both but at some point you have to make a choice. Let's hope Freedom doesn't squashed overmuch in our paranoia.

it is sad when a government body uses fear to manipulate the founding document in order to achieve an agenda tha is mainly business orientated by staking our freedom as their platform they will be hard to oppose for who would dare challenge such a platform it would be political suiside .
and that platform shows the desperation of a weak party not the strength of a leader let alone a comander in chief of the greatest country in the world .
bush and his administration should be investigated with all events leading up to and after 9-11
and for all those still in lala land and think that bush is doing anything for your benifit please get informed become educated in the information which is so aboundant and public and then come back and tell me how you are able to support any of his policy

security often come at the cost of sacrificing some privacy, it then becomes a question of how much and what exactly its used for. A monitored (no warrant) phone conversation regarding blowing up a building is heard and the suspects are arrested and the plot foiled, is that okay even thought they were listening to a private conversation?

Our freedoms are always at stake, aren't they?
If you pay taxes on something, you don't own it. You are merely renting it from the government.
The tax is the rent.
The less taxes you pay, the more freedom you have. Money equals freedom anywhere in the world.

Why do liberals act as if America is under attack by a Republican president when he was elected by the people and will leave office in 2 years?

Just because you lost elections doesn't mean you should accuse America of becoming communist Russia.

I would say that incidents like 9/11 are perfect examples of our freedoms are at stake.

3,000 civilian Americans lost their lives and freedoms just by showing up to work one Tuesday morning.

None of the people that support Bush understand either. Rush Limbaugh has said it on his program or something and they are like little kids and are just repeating it.
