Does our nation need a source of information which provides an unbaised source for news and political events? It seems any media presently used has a bais which sques the facts of the matter at hand. What say you?

I don't think you will ever find such an animal. Media is run by people people have biases. Even Fox who advertises fair and balanced reporting isn't really fair or balanced. Best best is to cull through various sources and make up your own mind.

Well, there's bias and there's bias. What we have now is really extreme.

So-called "news" items that are pure shilling for those in power, blatant disregard for fact, absurd focus on trivia and no attention given to things that really affect people's lives, etc.

But there is no such thing as unbiased news in a sense. Out of all the things that happen, you have to chose some, and pick a few of those to emphasize.

You have to decide what people to ask for explanation or further details.

What would be good would be for verified facts to be accurately reported, and for a variety of informed and intelligent views to be presented.

There's a sense in which we're moving in the right direction with the web.

Never before have people been able to pick and chose for themselves what topics and areas of concern to follow, and what to give a pass to, or been able to get their hands on original sources, or to consult as wide a variety of perspectives as we now can with this little toy on which I'm typing now.

Wanna know what the Arab world is saying? You can read it for yourself on their own web sites -- in English.

Want to follow the latest developments in anthropology? Bookmark some science news sites.

Need to read what the Geneva Conventions actually say? Go to Red Cross web site.

Missed what a public figure actually said in a speech or interview (rather than the 10 seconds the news-folk extracted)? The whole transcript may well be available.

Want to read a judicial decision? Yup! That's posted, too.

In the United States, media bias caters to an audience to which advertisers can sell.

In the Arab world (and other less free societies) media bias caters to the government.

Public broadcasters in the UK, Canada, and the U.S. cater to patrons that will donate money.

How can you create media without bias?.

Even if you felt that you found an unbiased source. You would still have to read/listen to others comparatively to be sure your original source maintained its integrity.

There's no way around listening to multiple sources if you want to be informed.

That is why I listen to both Fox News and Rush Limbagh. (this last paragraph is a joke. there are some sources on the liberal side too)

I say read more than one source for the news. Every source wants to put it's bias on what is reported, that is human nature. The idea is to do your own research and then decide what is truly your opinion.

That's the way people are as a rule, very bias! And if the facts go aganst their bias, they will not accept it! Some of us will, but not very many. It seems that every writter is bias to some degree and thus guilty of slanting the truth their way!

You can try AP, UPI, and Routers and sift through the story that way.
