i like firefox but i'm afraid that if it becomes too popular, then the advertisers hackers spammers will start attacking it instead of IE. Don't get me wrong, i want Firefox to be known, but if it starts getting exploited, might have to switch to Opera or Maxthon or whatever...Thanks for your responses.

if the malicious code is in the browsers, then let's hope we don't stumble upon bad pages......i do use stumble upon, which could be a threat, but for the most part i stick to reputable pages.

Developers of security software like Spybot, Ad-Aware, and ewido have been encouraged to develop the same kind of security features for Firefox like the ones developed for Internet Explorer.

They have been warned beforehand and should take action now to ensure that Firefox is fully guarded should it become a bigger target for exploits (it is already beginning to get more attention from hackers and malicious software developers and exploiters).

The big difference between IE and Firefox is the fact that Firefox is Open Source. Open Source software get fixed much faster than closed source software like IE. We all know how long it takes Microsoft to release a security patch. With Firefox you can have a patched version within hours after the exploit came to the attention of the Open Source community.

Programs like SpywareBlaster have been providing protection for Firefox since its early years of existence. So there are already a couple of good programs out there that will be able to do the job.

My personal opinion about Firefox is that it is more stable in its roots than IE ever wishes to be. With this stability you won't see all the exploits you get with Internet Explorer and even it becomes a bigger target it will still be more secure than IE.

There are exploits which affect Firefox (and every other browser, too) But IE's problem isn't just the widespread use, the underlying code has TONS OF BUGS- in part due to Microsoft attempting to integrate the browser so tightly with the operating system.

Sure, whoever is #1 will be targeted more by hackers- but IE is the double whammy, it's #1 in usage, and the least secure to begin with.

I hate to tell ya buddy, but firefox is already exploited. And not only that, most exploitation to webrowsers occurs in the code contained on the webpages that you visit. So.. You will have the same things happen no matter what browser you use to visit malicious pages.

It is just a matter of time.. The computer industry is changing soooo fast--So, for now, Firefox IS better and when IT becomes "bad"- there will be another one.....

I love Firefox. If that happens, we'll have to go back to IE. What a shame!

if anyone can get enough return on their time to screw with you, they will. i've started getting spam from my phone company on my cell...it's ridiculous. if stupid mchackerboy thinks he can get attention and/or money from hacking firefox, then he will. and it'll work.
