smoke is a kind of mixture called a colloid, meaning it is an even mixture of two phases of matter, other colloids include jello and whipped cream, smoke rises because it is less dense than air, in zero gravity there would be no bouyant force upon it so it would not rise unless it were acted upon by another force, it would probably simply swirl in the air and eventually disperse, in an amount of time depending upon the amount of smoke
in a vacuum however, it will disperse almost immediately assuming a relatively large vacuum

My guess would be due to heat and therefore smoke which is hotter than the surounding air rising because it is lighter and in zero gravity there is no "lighter" it would look like fog

judging from how long the smoke hangs in the air at high altitudes (contrails from high altitude planes) (high explosions) I would have to agree that gravity is not really a factor as much as the idea that it is hotter or less dense than surrounding. Apparently hot air and density is relative to air around it, gravity is not a factor. So.....

high altiude or air that is not dense - smoke will hang

low altitude, normal air - smoke will rise

no gravity involved either way

Absent anything to stir the air up, I would expect a cigarette to form a roughly spherical cloud centered on the burn, gradually increasing in diameter as the smoke particles diffuse into the surrounding air.

Lets assume you light a cigarette in a spaceship with a match.... BOOM... due to the high oxgen contenet - nobody is now left to see the smoke...

Ok... light a match outside the spaceship ---- you can't

Ok so empty a container with smoke in whilst outside - the smoke will imidiately dissipate

Hope that helps

It will not rise, it will just spread out in between air molecules and sort of form a circular fog.
