You don't owe anybody an explanation.

When people say stupid things to you do what politicans do when they don't want to answer a question.....keep pretending your don't hear the question/statement.

I have the same problem, I'm a vet and recieve a disability check from the VA. Sometimes we don't look disabled but we are. I too have family and friends telling me to go back to work. I guess we are just nice people otherwise we would tell them to shut up.
I'd like to make a comment to the one person here who said since we can work a computer we can work. The issue with me yes I can work but not 8 hours a day, and part time jobs mostly pay min. wage and I wasn't able to support myself on that.
So do I like my life? No I don't, I loved my old job and wish I could go back.

Look at these idiots explain there misguided understanding! Hey i should be on social security disability cause things are not right with me instead, i am being slowly put to death with bad food & health living in a stressful poverty situation losing my life saving that took years to build. You have to know how to work the system if you a legal American like me. Otherwise be an illegal & they roll out the red carpet! Most of these people are a bag of wind when it comes to welfare i think, many try but fail in collecting benifits enough to actually live off!

Sorry you are having such problems, both with your health and people's attitudes. If it is someone close to you then it is up to you to decide whether to have a discussion with them about it.

You could explain exactly why your illness keeps you from working and the problems you would have. If America is anything like the UK, getting Disabled benefits is extremly difficult nd only given to those with severe disability, therefore if the state has decided it's ok for you not to work then who do these people who tell you you should think they are?

If ot's not someone close to you, I'd just smile and say "Thanks for your opinion" It avoids conflict and lets them know that you don'twant to enter into arguments about it.

If you get a job you will lose your benefits unless you work under the table. that is why you are on Social Security Disability. You are disabled.

ask them if they are hiring a person who has special needs in a job,
cause you can't seem to find one that meets your criteria.

for example
my wife has narcolepsy alongwith some other probs and can't work
so I would ask
do you have a job that I can miss any day at any time, becasue I was asleep, and unable to call in?
the work area needs to be totally padded, cause I could pass out at any time.
I am having problems finding someone to hire me for that, but I'm glad you are offering. when can I start.

Tell them to f*ck off and if it bothers them that much, they should get a job with Social Security, then they can deny people they think don't deserve it.

Chin up, hon.

Stop talking to people who belittle you.

f you have a legitimate reason to be on SS, don't be embarrassed. That is what SS is for. Think about the two words. Social Security

Loose lips sink ships.

You don't have to explain yourself. Tell them it's none of their business. Either that or ignore their comments. Some people feel they know everything when they really know nothing.....
