If you use Windows XP I believe you can boot up in the safe mode (F8 during boot up) and then go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > User Accounts and then you should be able to change the password.

Another thing: did you just try hitting enter when it asks for a password? Sometimes that's all XP needs to let you in.

That happened to me once but i have a gateway when you turn on your comp at the bottom it should have this thing telling you press so n so to go to the menu etc. click on that and restore your computer to b4 you put the password there may be a easier way but this is how i did mine
