My friend, age 13, forgot that her sister's 20th birthday was today and doesn't have a present to give her. I need some easy homemade gift ideas for her to make.

A picture frame:
Cut out words from a magazine, and deco pauge (no idea how to spell it) onto the frame.

This would be easier if we knew what items she had available to help make a gift. A hot glue gun? What?

The cookie mix in a jar is a good idea if you know the recipient loves to bake but sometimes people are lazy and will just put the gifts aside and forget about baking them. When people receive gifts most of the time, they are looking for something they can use and eat right away. If I'm going to give an edible gift, I would want the recipient to devour it right after they unwrap the surprise. So it's better to just bake the cookies yourself and cellophane wrap them. Cellophane comes in different colors you can get them at an arts & crafts store. And you can put the goodies in small decorative tin cans or in gift bags. I like giving out homemade powdered milk candy aka "polvoron". You only use 4 ingredients. Here is the recipe: Ingredients/Materials: • All-purpose Flour: 4 cups • Powdered Milk: 2 cups • Butter (Melted): 1 ½ cup • Finely granulated sugar: 2 cups • Japanese paper/Cellophane wrap • square baking pan Method of Preparation: 1) Put four cups of flour in a pan and heat over medium flame for nearly 15 minutes. Continue to stir constantly until the flour becomes light brown in color. Do not stop stirring to avoid burning the flour. 2) Once the flour becomes golden brown, turn off the heat and empty the flour into a big bowl. 3) Add powdered milk to the bowl and mix it well with the flour for 3-4 minutes. 4) Add melted butter and finely granulated sugar and mix well, until the mixture becomes homogenous. 5) Fill the mixture in the square pan and press it hard with the help of a spoon. The mixture should be thick and firm. If it is too loose, add more butter and olive oil until it becomes thick enough to enable you to pick up a Polvoron from the mold without it crumbling away. 6) Place the square pan in the fridge until the mixture begins hard. Then cut it into squares. 7) Once firmed, wrap each Polvoron individually in Japanese paper or cellophane and store them in the fridge. Home-made Polvoron can be stored for a maximum of 7 days. You can also freeze them to store them for a longer period of time. Wrapping them in colorful papers and packing in gift boxes or baskets can make a wonderful gift during festive seasons.

you will need a see through glass jar (a jar that is used for caning food will do fine or u can buy something nicer) you also will meed glue, and tissue paper.

what you do is tear the tissue paper into little squares or whatever shpe you like it is nice if you have a veriety of colors. than you can glue the tissue paper onto the glass jar. You can make a pictue with the paper if u are artistic. Or u can just mak a jumble of the differant colors. THAN you place the canddle into the glass jar and the result will look like a stained glass window. IF YOU WANT YOU CAN ADD A PRETY RIBON AROUNG THE JAR good luck i hope this helps

handmade soaps:

take a bar of plain dove soap and melt it in the microwave in a bowl. Mix in oatmeal and brown sugar, mix, allow to cool a bit and mold into a shape or poor into a mold of some kind and allow to cool (not in the fridge). Make others with shaved lemon rind, or get scents at the craft store.
Or tell her to make a homemade gift card good for a dinner of her choice with her sis or a free car wash or something.

If your friend's sister likes to cook, try a recipe jar!
Basically, these are jars full of ingredients ready to cook/bake and the jar is tied with nice ribbon. Real cute.
