A neon light is red-orange. when materials are excited by heat or electricity, the electrons jump up to a higher level. Then they fall down, a spcific distance, or wavelength of light. To make tube lights of different colors you use different gases. Argon is blue-green. Xenon is bright white.

It depends upon the gas used in the tube. Red is the most common--that comes from neon. Then, Blue [mercury], white [carbon dioxide], and gold [helium].
