I have quite fair skin (hair is naturally light mousy brown and I have blue eyes....so not red-head pale, but still pretty fair). My skin is quite dry except my nose which can be oily. I'm 24. Occasionally I get one or two spots, and I have large pores on my nose, so I want something that has good coverage but won't look like a mask!!! Any suggestions for good foundations that will suit my skin? Sometimes find it hard to find a foundation that's the right colour, palest a brand does is too pale and the next one down is often too dark

First you'd want to start using one of those products to minimize the appearance of pores (Neutrogena has some good stuff). Then, you need to figure out what effect do you want from your foundation. you don't need to apply the same amount of foundation all over your face. Actually, the best look is the one that looks natural; for example, i have dark circles under my eyes and redness around my nose, but the tone on the rest of my face is pretty even, so i just apply some foundation under the eyes and around the nose and blend it out to the rest of the face.
if you just want to even out the tones of your face get a tinted moisturizer. if you want a little more coverage then that, try a liquid foundation. a cream to powder or a stick foundation offer heavier coverage but if you control the amount that you use you can still get a light look without looking like you have a mask. (Mac Cosmetics have a wide range of colors for different types of foundations, also, Lancome has a nice range. and there is L'oreal).
When trying for foundation, try it on your jaw.a good trick is (if you can afford it) to buy the shade that you think you are, the one before that and the one after that. then get under some natural light or go outside on a clear day and apply a small amount of each, one next to each other, and then you can see which one matches best. you can also mix and match until you find your shade (only do this with the same base: liquid with liquid or cream with cream).
Remember that less is more and only apply a little more on the darkest spots.

Foundation is such a personal thing, what is great for me might not be great for you, I am fair skinned with large pores on my nose too. The best I have ever found and have stuck with for the last year is Benefit's Non-Fiction foundation. Go and talk to them at the counter and get a colour check. It has great coverage but doesn't look false, is not cakey at all and leaes my skin just a little bit dewey and natural looking. I'd reccomend giving it a go, a few of my friends have converted.

Giorgio Armani is the best ever, however, it's expensive adn not available everywhere.

The best drugstore foundation is L'Oreal True Match. No, it does not match EVERY skin tone, I'm one of the 5% it doesn't exactly match, so I mix N2&N3. Mixing is really the best way to get an exact match. The finish is great, not shiny at all, and it does well with the large pore issue.

The Maybelline mousse is very good, but it does settle into large pores on your nose, which is why I don't use it.

I bought the Maybelline dream matte mousse today from Boots, it was on offer, usual price £6.99 but was selling at £4.99. Obviously I haven't trialed it much yet but I have tried some on this evening and it seems to have really good coverage, even on spots. It doesn't seem to make your skin dry either and by the sounds of it I have quite similar skin to you. There are also quite a few shades available even at the paler end of the spectrum so hopefully you'd be able to find one suitable :o)

Bare Escentuals, its a foundation made with pure minerals no binders so works really well for all skin types, you can mix two colours together and even mix blusher and foundation together, to give you the perfect colour.

It looks like a powder but goes on like a cream and when you get really close to someone you cannot see it at all on the skin.

QVC sell it go to their website www.qvc.co.uk and you can try it out for 30 days and if your not happy send it back, no quibble, money back guarantee.

Its £40.00 not cheap but well worth it!! Hope this helps!!!

My skin is almost exactly the same as yours.
I would highly reccommend Dior AirFlash which is a spray foundation. It gives you the coverage you want cause you can build the colour up without being caked on.
I use shade 200 which is reasonable pale without making you look like a ghost.

Mineral foundation is good. It gives light coverage without looking like you have too much on.

puritycosmetics.co.uk are a good brand. Have colours for pale skin as well as being good for your skin.

My skin is just like that as well, I am currently trying Almay smart shade makeup as i also find it hard to get the right shade (it starts off white and supposedly changes colour to suit your skin).
It's quite good but not sure i could recommend it over the mousse everyone else is mentioning as i haven't tried that one!!
